Wedding Planning Update

Wedding Planning Update

Popping on to give ya’ll a quick wedding planning update!

As you may know, we found our venue! We are having our wedding at a Historic House in Nashville. We were torn between this historic house and a large venue meant for hosting events. We ended up going with the historic house because it gave us the flexibility to customize our wedding the way that we want it to be and it is A LOT more affordable.

How to Save $$$ Without Losing Your Social Life

How to Save $$$ Without Losing Your Social Life

Your early twenties is this really weird time where you want to do everything but have next to no extra money to do anything. After a long 8 hour day, the only thing you want to do is grab a drink with your gal pals or go get a mani pedi and wash (or drink) away the day. Then reality catches up with you and reminds you that rent is due in a week, to save money for groceries, pay tuition so you can get a real job with a real salary. Even though money may be tight it doesn't mean that you have to sit a home and twiddle your thumbs while your friends go on exotic trips and drink fancy drinks. Chances are, they are looking for ways to save dat money and still have a good time too.

The Social Media Rabbit Hole

So I have been thinking a lot lately about social media, blogging, and using social media as a marketing tool for yourself and your business. I am constantly finding myself in this rabbit hole of what could I do different to make myself more like XYZ. I will edit my photos different or write content that I am not in love with and then never end up posting. I have found myself spending so much time trying to replicate something I am not, will not ever be, and frankly-- not who I ever want to be.

Something I have been reflecting on lately (and yes I know reflecting sounds silly but social media is really an extension of yourself!!) is why focus on fitting in when you can develop your own tone, your own style, and just be yourself! Who cares what others may think and so what if you lose a couple of followers along the way. The people who truly support you will stick around a appreciate this new found confidence!

Stop reading those, “10 ways to get 10,000 Instagram followers this month!” posts and stop obsessing with what filter your grid is and start posting what makes you happy. Now don’t get me wrong, I like my Instagram to be aesthetically pleasing but I refuse to spend hours wondering why so-and-so has more followers or more likes or anything else for that matter.

Some may think this whole post is completely ridiculous and obnoxious and just sooooo mileinal but to some, I may have just wrote down our exact thoughts and be speakin’ your language. So to all of you who understand and think I’m not totally crazy, I am giving you all virtual hugs and high fives! Tomorrow is a new day and a day full of opportunity for all of us to come out of our shell and take on the world (real or virtual) the way we want-- not just the way we think others will “like”.

Life Update: I GOT ENGAGED

I know I say this every single time I post a life update but geez has life been a whirlwind right now!

I am officially neck deep into my senior year of college and taking only core classes which is nice because I love learning about what I am going to do for the rest of my life but at the same time-- that ART 100 class doesn't seem like such a bad buffer on Monday/ Wednesday afternoons anymore.

I am still working my internship for the college throughout the rest of the year and o=my first big event that I planned is taking place on Friday!!!! I never realized how stressful planning an event could be but it's good practice for later ;) I kinda sorta have a second internship that I am working on as well. I am running the analytics from all of the School of Communication's websites from our TV station, newspaper, and radio station. I LOVE analytics. I feel like such a nerd when I say that but I think it is so neat to see all the hard work you put into something actually have an impact. I am now working on getting my Google Analytics certification and Ad words certification to boost my resume for when I get outta this place.

I also accepted an assistant research position with one of my professors from last year. We will be looking at our local new channel and researching what attracts people to local news. I am taking it for credit which helps knock a class off my plate. I am excited to work closely with a professor and learn more about the research side of the field.

Now the reason you probably clicked on the post (because who really cares about what I am up to at school except maybe my mom.. hey ma!) I GOT ENGAGED! Nick proposed in San Francisco-- one of my favorite places on earth below the Golden Gate Bridge!!!

We are now trying to get all of our plans in place which is a lot harder than I thought it would be. We are shooting for October 2018 as our wedding date but the crazy thing is... most places book about 15 months in advance!!! We also decided on a Nashville wedding (another one of my fav places on earth) so we are flying out at the end of the month to meet with our church and visit venue reception sites. I'll be better about posting updates because I wish I had more resources to rely on at this point. We are taking our engagement pictures on Sunday so I will post the #howwemeet and #howheasked when we get them back.

In the mean time! I will be hustling to post more on my blog because it is the outlet I never knew I needed, trying to pass senior year, and PLAN A WEDDING!!

What's new with you? Let's chat in the comments.

ema (OMG THIS WILL CHANGE SOON TOO!!)

Happy Birthday, Nick!

Nick,

OMG I can not believe that today, you are 22. I will never forget when we were 16 and carpool buddies and you bought me a bag of apples for my birthday. I vividly remember going on our first date and how awkward we were at that bowling alley and now, almost 5 years later, nothing, and I mean literally NOTHING has been that weird since. It has been amazing to grow with you and watch you transform from a goofy teenager into the man you are today.  SO for your bday, here is a list of 22 things I love about you.

1. Your perseverance and positive attitude that can move mountains.

2. Your sense of adventure and spontaneousness

3. What a great dog- dad you are to Chance

4. Your unconditional love for everyone you meet

5. Your willingness to try anything once...and encouraging me to do the same.

6. In fact, I love how encouraging you are-- whether it is trying something new or conquering a situation, you make the impossible seem possible.

7. Your wisdom and critical thinking (sounds silly but you have the ability to completely think out any situation which I find AMAZING)

8. Your dreams and how you never give up on them.

9. How supportive you are of my dreams even if it means running off to Europe for 6 months or dragging you around town to take cute pictures.

10. Your goofy personality and how you light up a room with your presence.

11. The way you play with Brody.

12. The way you love your mom.

13. Your patience and gentle heart.

14. Your handiness-- Remember when you saved that guy from blowing up his brand new Denali because he didn't know how to jump it? Or when you changed my tire in a completely full parking lot? or how 'bout the fact that you have taken two pieces of rust-- ahem-- I mean antique vw bugs and turned them into fully functioning off road cars? You never cease to amaze me.

15. Your dedication and diligence.

16. Your brains. Seriously, you are a freakin' GENIUS!

17. How your calmness and borderline OCD is the perfect balance to my constantly hectic and extremely scattered brain (and life).

18. Your taste in music... most of the time ;)

19. Your cooking skills and bar tending abilities.

20. Your friendship.

21. The way you don't bite my head off in the morning when I open the blinds and blend smoothies while you are trying to sleep in like a normal person.

22. MAN, you are old haha BUT finally, I love your love and how much of your heart you are willing to share with me and chance.

I am excited to continue to grow and love you even more (if that's possible) for the next year and for many more years to come. Happy birthday! I love you!

June- Listening, Watching, Reading

Happy first day of June! It's not officially summer yet but it sure feels like it. I've decided to start sharing what I am currently listening to, watching, and reading. I love connecting with you guys and discovering new things to listen to, watch, and read so I am hoping to give you all some inspo each month!

Listening

I recently made this guy on Spotify and have been listening to it non-stop since. It is more "alternative" esque music I guess you could say. Check it out here. I like it because I can listen to it while I work, write, or drive and it never feels out of place.

Watching

I have been bouncing between Scandal and Girl Boss. I never watched Scandal as it was on TV so now I am catching up on Netflix (also because I don't have cable #collegeprobs) but I can't get enough of it!! So dramatic and the seasons just build upon each other to make an incredible story line. And Olivia Pope basically does PR for everyone in D.C. and I love PR so I naturally love her.

I have also been watching Girl Boss because I read the book while I was abroad and loved it. The show... I am having a little bit of a hard time getting into but I am only on the second episode so we will see!

Reading

Being summer, I have two books I am diving into this month. Citizen Girl by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus and Swapping Lives by Jane Green. Not going to lie, I totally choose these books by their covers. I am hoping that they are worth while but hey, summer reads are supposed to be easy reads!

What are you listening to, watching, and reading this month? Let's chat in the comments!

Life Update: Summer Plans and Turning 21

Wow has this week been a whirlwind or what!

I turned 21, finished finals, and started my summer internship!

You heard that right! I got an internship! and I will be staying in Flagstaff for the summer! (yay, no 110-degree temps for me!) I was feeling a little nervous there for a while but I scored! I am now working in the dean's office at the university. The job is literally everything I want to be doing after graduation. I am so excited to dive in head first and get hands on experience before moving on to the real world. This weekend, I helped with commencement and it gave me hope because I will be walking across that stage next year!!!!

Coming back down to reality, I finished finals this week. HOORAH!! And just like that, my junior year of college is over! I can't believe it. I feel like I started high school yesterday. With more time on my hands (finally!) I want to really dive into my blog and maybe even starting a YouTube channel so keep your eyes open this summer for good content and new goodies!

Finally! I turned 2-1 last week and I have barely been sober since ;) but really, I went out for my power hour (the hour that you turn 21 so midnight- 1 am) with my pals and can't remember any of it. I took a chill pill-- and a couple Motrin on my actual birthday and went out to din- din with my friends at Oreganos. I have been dying to go here because they have the margarita of all margaritas (weird for an Italian restaurant, right??) So if you are 21, looking for a delicious and surprisingly strong Cadillac marg, and live in AZ, hit up your local joint.

On Cinco De Mayo, a bar in Flag called The Mayor had Cinco De May-or block party. We spent most of the day here and had a fiesta! We had a great time but man were the crowds real. The bartenders were so busy, they even snapped my friend's debit card. So if you are ever in Flagstaff and looking for a cute, trendy bar, The Mayor is great (especially for the perfect Insta pic) but go when it is not crowded! My dad came up to continue the celebration on Saturday and we went thrifting at the new goodwill and went to some of the local watering holes where we enjoyed a build- your-own bloody mary bar and Irish trashcans.

Fast forward a week and my childhood bffl, Marissa, graduated from ASU so we went down to the valley to celebrate her achievements with some pizza and *surprise, surprise* more drinks!!

For the rest of the month, I will be detoxing my liver and trying to get back into shape with some Kayla Itsines and classic running. After all, on my 21 before 22 list is to complete a marathon!

So there ya have it!

What are your summer plans? Let's chat in the comments.

A Peachy Saturday

Hi there lovelies!

Some of my favorite days are those spent with people I love. Yesterday, Nick and I went to the Annual Schnepf Farms Peach Festival with his sister, brother-in-law, and nephew, Brody. We enjoyed a DELICIOUS peachy cinnamon roll made with their farm fresh peaches and then picked our very own. Brody is at such a fun age now where he understands everything going on around him and is getting better at putting full sentences together. He is developing his very own personality and is getting bigger and less toddler- more boy- like every time I see him. ( cue sobbing emoji)

_DSC0037.JPG

While eating the peaches is always fun, I think I had a better time getting comfortable behind the camera. I have had a DSLR for a while now but I always feel more comfortable just taking pictures with my iPhone. BUT I have finally taken the time to figure out the settings and what looks best and took her for a spin at the farm. I am super excited about how the photos turned out and I am excited to get some more practice! Here are a few snaps from out weekend:

Flower Fields at Schnepf Farms

Peach Picking Smiles
Sunflowers on the Farm

Tonight, my fam is going to make a peach cobbler out of the 9 pounds of fresh picked peaches! I can't wait!

What did you do this weekend? Have any tips or tricks for first time DSLR users? Let' chat in the comments!

Staying Healthy in College

Staying healthy in college can be a struggle. Between classes, homework, part- time jobs,  and extracurricular activities, it's hard to make time to sleep-- let alone pay attention to our health. I'll be the first to tell you how easy it is to stop by Starbs or Einstein's between classes to grab a coffee and a snack. These stops may be convenient and give you a little push to get through one more lecture but they are doing more harm than good (to your waistline and wallet) That latte and bagel are 610 calories and will cost you about an hour of work at your part-time job. THAT'S INSANE.

but, have no fear!

It is easier to have a healthy (healthier) lifestyle in college than you think!

Here are a few things that I have tried and have worked for me:

Don't eat on campus

The food is over- priced and disappointing. I will transfer schools the day I find a college campus that has decent, healthy food that doesn't cost the same as half a semester of tuition. (okay, not really but you get the point)  Instead, shop your local farmer's market or even just the produce section of your grocery store. There is always some sort of sale on in season produce. Eat breakfast and pack a snack and lunch for the day. Besides, a lunch break is much more enjoyable out in the sunny quad than in a weird smelling dining hall, in my humble opinion.

Use an app like My Fitness Pal

You can use an app like My Fitness Pal to log your daily food, water and exercise routines. You can even use the app to keep you on track if you are trying to gain, lose or maintain weight. Personally, I like the app just to remember what I ate throughout the day and to see the nutrition facts on the foods I eat. That meal at Chick- fil- a is a lot worse off for you than I was ever expecting.

Skip the sugary drinks to get caffeine

Instead of your triple shot double pump skinny mocha, opt for plain black coffee or plain green tea as your source of daily caffeine. If anything, you're getting more energy from the sugar in most "specialty" coffee drinks than actual caffeine. It can be a tough transition going to plain coffee or tea but your body will thank you later.

Enroll in a PE class

One of the best parts about college is having the freedom to enroll in random classes. I will always enroll in a PE class. This forces me to make time in my schedule to work out twice a week. Some weeks, if a workout is not explicitly in my planner it's not going to happen. This year I am taking a spin class (highly recommend it!!) and I actually look forward to it. If your school doesn't offer PE classes, still write in a workout into your planner and stick to it. Treat it like a job or class you don't want to miss OR get a gym buddy. Someone who will hold you accountable and that you don't want to let you down. Some of the best workouts I have are with my gym buddy!

Try to not eat after 8pm

OR two hours before bed. You'll wake up without feeling bloated and feel more energized. Your body's digestive system slows down when it is going to bed, storing anything and everything you eat right before going to bed. No thank you.

Walk to class

Leave for your classes a little earlier and take a walk. You will get to know your campus better and enjoy the fresh air. On longer walks, call and check in with your parents and grandparents. Two birds, one stone.

Mother's Day Gift Guide

Mother's Day is upon us! I have always seen Mother's Day as a tad more important than Father's Day (no offense day, you rock!) because moms are just always there right when we need them. They answer the phone on the first ring and know how to do... literally anything. Mom's are total rockstars and Mother's Day is the best way to show mom how much she means to us.

My family's tradition is to go to Church and go to a trendy restaurant. My sister and I always split a gift for her and then we spend time with the fam and grandparents the rest of the day.

Here is a round-up of gifts mom will love! Yes, I did get my mom one of these but I am keeping my lips locked until Mother's Day ;)

Mother's Day Gift Guide.jpg

Hydroflask: I seriously love this water bottle! It keeps ice cold for 24 hours and hot water hot for 12. I like the straw top because I think it encourages me to drink more water throughout the day because it is easier. #lazy Hydroflask sells bottles, cup, and growlers in a variety of sizes for whatever your life needs.

A wood wick burning candle:  These candles are nice because they actually crackle when they burn. They are the best for at home spas or rainy days. This brand also has THE best scents.

Lush Bath Bomb: Who doesn't love a bath bomb? And Lush's always smells so so wonderful and I always feel so rejuvenated after a bath with the bomb. I especially love that they do product lines for different holidays and seasons so these mom ones are PERFECT for Mother' Day.

A comfy pair of slippers: I have never actually owned a pair of Sorel Slippers but I do have two pairs of their snow boots. Their shoes are super high quality and are the epitome of warmth. I would definitely give these slippers a run for my money. And they are cute so if mom is having ~one of those days~ she can wear them to the grocery store to grab a bottle of wine.

A bouquet of flowers: Of course, you can not have a complete Mother's Day gift guide without flowers. 1-800-Flowers has same day delivery and contracts out local flower shops to deliver right to mom. They have bouquets for all budgets and flowers of all varieties.

Ninja Blender: The Ninja blender is the blender of all blenders. It is a little bit on the pricier side but they last forever and can blend pretty much anything. Imagine all of the new yummy foods mom can make with such a powerful blender! Acai smoothies, anyone?

Crossbody purse: Moms are usually seen with giant.. how do I say it... mom purses?? You know what I am talking about-- those bags that are huge and seem to have EVERYTHING in them. It is time that mom gets a stylish upgrade. I particularly love Kate Spade because their bags are modern and high quality. They are also always having sales and you can get 15% off your order just for subscribing to their emails.

A pair of cute sunnies: If your mom is anything like mine, she loses sunglasses as often as she loses chapstick. Although it is always fun to splurge on a nice pair of designer sunglasses, I know my mom would rather enjoy what she is doing while wearing the sunglasses than focus on taking care of them. This cute pair is from Target but you can also check out places like T.J. Maxx and Marshalls for a cute pair for less than $20.

Sugar lip balm: And speaking of chapstick... If you would have told me a year ago that I would be talking how much I love a tube of $24 chapstick I would have looked at you like you grew a unicorn horn on your forehead. But hear me out! Not only is the packaging adorable and aesthetically pleasing but this lip balm is super moisturizing leaves your lips feeling like a baby's bum. It also has SPF 15 making it perfect for the sunny days ahead.

What are you getting mom for Mother's Day? You can spill, I promise I won't tell! Let's chat in the comments.

Easter Sunday

Hi lovelies!

Long time no talk, sorry about that! Life and school have been crazy hectic. I can not seem to catch a break with school and I am so happy that school is ALMOST over. This weekend, I was able to go to my parent's house for Easter and escape from everything school related. I always feel so lucky to have my childhood home to come back to and my fam is able to take a break and spend the weekend with me.

Today, we went to Easter Sunday Mass at my old elementary school and I ran into my childhood bestie. When I was in Europe last semester, she was also abroad and studying in Copenhagen, Denmark. I was able to go out and see her, she was able to come out and see me and we meet up for a week in Italy. I cherish friendships like ours because no matter how much time passes in between the last time we saw each other or talked, everything just picks back up where is left off-- like no time passed at all.

This weekend was just the taste of summer that I needed. Hopefully, this mini vacay will give me enough motivation to finish out the year.

With summer on the mind, I can't help but think of all of the things I want to see and do. One of the biggest things I am looking forward to is my bf's family's annual beach trip to the Outer Banks. I wasn't able to tag along last year because of my summer internship. This summer, I made it a priority to go! If you have never been to OBX, you have to add it to your bucket list. It feels like every Nicholas Sparks book ever. (If fact, the house from the Night's in Rodanthe, the movie, is on the island!)

Until then, I'll keep dreaming away and chugging through the rest of the semester.

P.S.  I am writing up posts about my study abroad experience which I plan on sharing the next couple of weeks, including What They Don't Tell You About Studying Abroad, My Favorite Cities I Visited, and the Cheapest Ways to Travel in Europe. Stay tuned!

Alternative Spring Fashion

Greeting from here in Flagstaff where the high for today in 42 degrees :)

Clearly, spring has not sprung in my little mountain town so cute shorts and floral dresses will have to stay packed away for a little bit longer. No biggie, this just means that sweater weather continues! And a fun bonus!! a tons of stores are now getting rid of their winter wear so new clothes are super cheap.

Alternative Spring Fashion

Today, I decided on an all black outfit, mourning the fact that it is still so cold, with spouts of rain/ sleet/ hail/ snow throughout the day.

I just got this choker yesterday from Nasty Gal and I unboxed it and a super cute pair of metallic heels on my Instagram story so be sure to follow along to not miss out next time!

5 Reasons to Become an Early Bird

I get it. Mornings are hard. You bed always get cozier the moment your alarm goes off. The blankets are calling and I must go. BUT there are some real advantages to becoming a morning person.

5 Reasons to Become and Early Bird

1. Your day is long so you can check more things off of your to-do list. Go to the gym, write the post, finish the assignment... you name it! By waking up early you are giving yourself extra time to be productive.

2. You have more time to eat (and enjoy) breakfast. I know that too many mornings have passed where I am eating breakfast as I am running out the door or have to forego breakfast completely. Instead of laying in bed and browsing social media, get up and fuel your body for the day.

3. You'll sleep better. It may sound backward but hear me out...  Several studies show that by waking up early, you have a better-established sleep schedule which leads to better sleep. So on that note, sleeping in late on the weekends is actually hurting you more during the week. hmmmmm

4. You get more quite time. If everyone else sleeps in, there is more time for yourself. There is not enough me time throughout our busy days and everyone could use more of it!

5. You get to watch the sunrise. Nothing is better than that :)

Have you tried waking up early? Let's chat in the comments!

Weekend Recap

On any typical weekend, you can catch me binge watching Scandal, going to the gym and sleeping in but not this weekend! It feels like Nick and I fit an entire semester's worth of fun into one weekend.

Here's a quick recap of what we did!

Friday:

I worked until 10 and then we headed for Bearizona (a drive through, part zoo part jurassic park attraction in Williams, AZ) I had a free pass to go because I had to for one of my classes but regular tickets are $20 a person and WELL worth it. We saw so many animals native to northern arizona in a natural environment and it was so cool. In the drive through part, you are actually driving through there home and there were several times where we had to stop and wait for the animals to walk in front of our car. There is also a walk- thru part like a normal zoo but the animals' homes still felt very natural and un-zoo like which I really appreciated. I loved seeing so many kids there because sometimes it is hard to appreciate and be an activist for something you can't physically see. Overall, I loved Bearizona and if I were to go again, I would def come back this time of year because all of the animals are out of hibernation and out and about. I would also go around lunch time because that is quite a sight to see.

Friday night, I went to a group painting event put on through NAU with my gal pals. It was like the paint and wine night minus the wine because it was on campus. It's so neat that we all followed the same direction but they all turned out so unique and diverese. I really love that NAU puts on events like this often. Because flag is so small, sometimes you can get a little stir crazy. Here are some snaps of our lovely artwork. Mine is currently hanging in the bathroom :) :) :)

Saturday:

I woke up bright and early (9:30 hehe) and went to a hot yoga class to sweat out all the nasty from the week. It was my first class at the studio so it was free and they have this awesome promo going on and your first 30 days are $30. Ya can catch your girl getting hot and fit for the next 30 days.

Later we went to sams club for lunch (sample city) and then got groceries.  #adulting

fun fact: it started lighting/ thundering/ hailing/ snowing all while we were walking to the car and on our drive home and then stopped the second we got inside. funny how that works out

To end the night, we went to dinner with one of my friends and her bf and then saw beauty and the beast. Let me tell ya, if you haven't seen it yet, go. I actually cried and it was wonderful. Nick on the other hand, enjoyed it but HAD NO IDEA IT WAS A MUSICAL. helllloooo!!! and didn't know this is where belle came from. He thought everyone was obsessed with the twilight character. I need to have a word with his mother or sister.

Sunday:

We were actually up bright and early to head up the san franciso peaks for a full day of shredding the nar. aka snowboarding. We had a great time but boy I did not realize how out of shape I was. Last year, we had season passes and went twice a week and it was a piece of cake. Today, when we finished our second run I was exhusted!! Regardless, it was amazing and fun and perfect conditions and we had a blast and plan on getting season tickets to snowbowl again next year. I also want to learn how to ski.

Tonight, I am drafting up a few new posts like how to paint the perfect paddle, why I cut red meat from my diet and how to write a stellar resume. Hopefully you'll see them soon!

Managing Money on a College Budget

Money makes the world go 'round.

It is hard to manage money in college, especially if you don't have a ton of it to start out with.

Full disclaimer: I am a 20-year-old college student who has a student wage job and values living in the now more than investing in the future but I feel like I have learned a thing or two about money since I have been "on my own".

So here we go:

1. Get a job. I work less than 20 hours a week but it is enough money to get by and not have to ask my parents for grocery or gas money every week.

2. Live within your means. If you only make $300 every paycheck, don't go out and spend $300 between every paycheck. I budget about $30 for groceries every week and about $25 for gas. These costs are things I know I will have every single week... or else I am SOL.

3. Don't use a credit card unless you know you can pay it off. Having credit card debt or a poor credit score might not seem like a big deal now but it will really suck when you go to buy a house, car, or even a refrigerator one day. If you do have credit card debt, make a conscious effort to pay it off asap. This bill should go up there with your grocery, gas and rent bill. I had a credit card and I found myself using it more than I could afford so like any rational human being, I cut it to shreds so I couldn't use it anymore. I decided not to cancel it because I might come back to it one day when I am a more responsible adult. I have also heard of people freezing their cards so they have time to think if they really need the purchase while the ice thaws. Maybe next time, I'll try that ;)

4. Put extra money away for a rainy day. You never know when life is going to kick you in the shin and you will be happy to have a little cushion when it does. Last year, I ran over something and it RUINED my tire. The replacement- almost $200 which doesn't sound like a lot but it is when you realize that is almost two weeks worth of work.  And hey!! if you are lucky and nothing bad ever happens to you, this money could be used towards your retirement.... or maybe your next escape to Europe one day.

5. Find a side hustle. It can be blogging, vlogging, freelance, tutoring, selling your clothes, or selling your plasma. If you are pressed for cash, there are endless random opportunities that you can take advantage of to fatten your wallet.

Feeling Lucky

Happy St Pattys Day!!!

Oh how I wish I was back in Ireland. A girl can dream.

Now- back to reality.

Here is my outfit for the day. Green is not really in my color wheel but I did not want to be pinched all day long and to work with this AZ heat wave, I styled my st. pattys day outfit with these green shorts from h&m and trumpet sleeve top from zara, and finished the ensemble with a statement necklace from old navy.

Today was also the grand opening of the new good will near my parents house which oddly enough was LIT. I know I know the good freaking will??? But hey you never know what you will find. They must stock decently good stuff for the grand opening because I found some surprising gems. I found a brandy melvile tank top fro $3, a floppy hat for $7, two madewell shirts for $6 and a fun levi oversized button down jean shirt (which actually pairs perfectly with the tank top!!) and more!!

What did you wear for st. pattys? What goods have you found thrifting before?  Let's chat in the comments.

A Full Heart

Full disclosure, this is going to get sappy.

Nick and I have been dating for almost FIVE years. It feels like forever and no time at all.

In that time, we have been able to grow and experience new things together. One of the new things were are able to enjoy is nick's nephew, mr. brody parker. He just turned two on saturday and it blows my mind how quickly he has grown but amazing to see his personality begin to shine through and see the little man he is becoming. Being a kinda aunt to this little boy has been the greatest blessing and I am so thankful to be apart of his life. When I left to go to europe in august, I was so upset to be leaving in general but I didn't realize how much I would miss this kid. In the time I was gone, he had transformed from a baby to a toddler and started talking and understanding everything. Now I am happy to be home and see him a lot more often.

So on that note, here are a few snaps from his bday party this weekend. If you want to see more of his cute face, you can follow his mom @mommasociety on instagram

Creating Your Own Fashion Trends

I visit the communication building on campus 5 days a week because...well I'm a com major.  Let me tell you, when I walk through the com building, it feels like I am walking the runway in a fashion show. Everyone is so freakin' stylish and I feel like everyone is always judging what you are wearing. It is quite an intimidating feeling.

I used to mentally take notes on what other people were wearing, both on the fashionable side and the more I- woke- up- like- this- but- really- spent- way too- much- time- on- my- messy- bun- look. But at the end of the day, I realized it'snot what you wear but how you wear it.

After visiting Europe... and realizing how trendy Europeans are, I feel like I have been willing to try new outfit combos that I wouldn't have felt super comfortable in before. I am just sharing this today because not to toot my own horn but I really admired my outfit today!!! and NO JOKE it came to me in a dream. which was nice because when i put it on, I wasn't 100% sure about they way it looked. Does it look like I am trying to hard? Does this sweater make my butt look big? But I also realized that confidence is key and I really don't care if people think I am trying to hard or if the sweater is making my butt look big. I just had to own it.

So here she is: Tuesday's outfit!!!

Sweater: Zara Skirt: Goodwill but originally from J. Crew and Shoes: Adidas

So what I am really trying to share here is put on an outfit in the morning and walk out the door like you are on top of the world!!
